While not the official title, bands like Northlane and Sleep Token have carved out a moody modern metal niche. Melancholy rich, full chords with definition, good mid clarity and some bass thrown in there. Unlike other types of modern metal, you won’t find any scooped mids here. Carefully EQ’d to give that delicious ch0nk, but without taking out too much of the bottom end either. These bands are pioneering the use of modellers and plugins (Loathe’s last album was all Neural DSP plugins).
This is your tone if you want to sound like Sleep Token or Northlane with your Quad Cortex. A lot of effort was put into sourcing down guitar tracks and referencing live videos, rig rundowns, interviews, and other bits of information to get something that is accurate.
Please note that this type of sound can’t be achieved with one guitar alone. You’re hearing a single recorded guitar track without bass, mixing, mastering or layered tracks to achieve what you might associate with a recorded studio sound.
This preset uses scenes, and each scene from Scene B onwards goes down in pitch, allowing you to tune down lower.
These demos were recorded on a Schecter C-7 Pro with Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickups in the bridge position.
